“We got tired of overpaying for bloated software full of features we'd never use. This does exactly what an excavation crew needs (time tracking, material loads, and reports), without all the extra stuff driving up the price. The best part is when we think of something that would make our lives easier, Jared adds it fast. No jumping through hoops. It's like having a developer on call and makes our ideas better.”
JRM Excavation
Owner at Southern Utah
The Problem
JRM Excavation is a small crew in Southern Utah, usually one owner doing everything, sometimes scaling up to 3-5 employees. They had always used paper timesheets, but employees would lose them and then have to make up their hours from memory. There was no reliable way to know how many hours were going into each job.
They tracked dump truck loads per job but never pulled it all together into reports. Everything lived in someone's head or on a scrap of paper. There was no clear picture of where time and materials were actually going.
The Solution
I built a custom web app that employees pull up on their phones to clock in and out. Every time entry is tied to a specific job, so the owner always knows exactly how many hours are going into each project.
After using the time tracking for a while, the crew realized it would be helpful to track dump truck loads the same way. I added load tracking where they log each load with the material type and tonnage, tied to the job. What used to be scattered notes became organized data.
Reports and Exports
The app includes reports broken down by employee, job, and load material. The owner can see at a glance how much time and material is going into any job, which employees are working where, and what materials are being hauled.
Everything can be exported to CSV. Employee time exports go straight to the accountant and payroll company. Job and load data exports get imported into their invoicing system. They use a smaller invoicing tool that does not support direct integrations like QuickBooks would, so the CSV export bridges that gap perfectly.
Built to Fit
This is not a one-size-fits-all SaaS product. It is exactly what an excavation crew needs and nothing more. No paying for features they will never touch. It is cheap to run and fits their workflow exactly. And when they think of something new that would help, I add it fast. No support tickets, no waiting on a product roadmap. Just a direct line to the developer who built it.
